Christina Chappell, MPA

Senior Vice President
Creative Strategy

Knoxville, TN

Christina has more than 30 years of experience serving to advance the missions of local, national and international nonprofits. Her professional career includes two decades of leadership in high impact organizations specializing in Christian philanthropy, evangelism and discipleship, higher education, Christian media, international relief, holistic child development, international and domestic advocacy and medical services.

Christina lives the causes she represents, and has been doing so since she was a child. Her first encounter with fundraising was an Easter Seals bike-a-thon, where she became the top fundraiser in her market at the age of 12. Her passion for mission drove her to produce results then, and continues to do so now.

With an extensive background in leading creative vision, ideation, strategy, and execution, Christina is an advocate for and expert in creating high-impact messaging to help our clients tell their stories and articulate their case to supporting partners. In this capacity she leads our Impact Messaging team and oversees the creation of donor communications and messaging materials and media for our clients.

Christina has mastery of both the art and the science of fundraising. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Whitworth University and a Master of Public Administration from Regent University, and has leveraged her education and skill in market research, business analytics and strategic planning to edify every professional role she has held. Indeed, Christina is a thought leader in the nonprofit advancement space for this very reason.

Even while she is an operational innovator, Christina has a unique and broad expertise in the cornerstones of development: major gift development and solicitation, moves management and donor cultivation, foundation and corporate relations, church relations, mid-level giving, endowed giving, annual fund and impact messaging.

Christina has served in advancement leadership for a number of large organizations with international programs and diverse stakeholders. Before coming to Dickerson, Bakker & Associates, Christina served as Chief Business Development Officer at Open Doors USA, where she led Ministry Advancement, Advocacy, and Volunteer Mobilization. Her teams’ markets included corporate, foundation and individual donors, government officials, political advocates and activists, churches, colleges and individual volunteers. Before that, Christina served as National Director of Major Gifts at Compassion International, Executive Director of Advancement at Regent University and led the national foundations and grants function at The Christian Broadcasting Network.

Christina’s goal and passion is to empower organizations to be thoughtful, artful and effective in ministry to their donors, and thus maximize their missions. Accordingly, Christina serves as a member of the Advisory Council for the Christian Leadership Alliance.

Christina lives in East TN and loves spending time with her family, hiking with her dogs and advocating for creation care. She enjoys entertaining, planning events, culinary arts and interior decorating.
